MicroNeedling (Collagen Induction Therapy)

Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), also known as MicroNeedling, Percutaneous Induction Needling, or simply Needling, is a method of inducing a controlled wound into the skin for the purpose of triggering a release of growth factors, collagen, and elastin.  The goal of CIT is to rejuvenate the skin with improvements in fine lines, skin tone, skin texture,  and acne scarring.  CIT can also improve trauma scars and stretch marks.  Collagen Induction Therapy works in a very similar manner to our ProFractional Laser Therapy;however, with CIT, the absence of thermal injury allows for a much quicker healing time with less risk of heat-induced post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.  CIT can be performed on all skin types and on most areas of the body, including: face, neck, décolletage, hands, arms, legs, back, and abdomen.

What is the method of application for CIT?

A sterile disposable needle cartridge holding 36 micro-needles is loaded onto the motorized Collagen P.I.N.   After 30-45 minutes of topical numbing, the skin is cleansed and prepped with a defatting agent.  A treatment serum is applied, then the motorized Collagen P.I.N. glides over the treatment area in a combination of vertical passes, horizontal passes, and small circles.  Additional treatment serum is introduced into the micro-channels created by the Collagen P.I.N. The treatment is finished with the application of a mineral sunscreen.

Will my CIT treatment hurt?

Prior to your procedure, the treatment area will be numbed with a topical anesthetic for 30-45 minutes.  Most patients report a painless treatment after topical numbing, with some mentioning sensations of tickling, vibration, and mild pressure.  The treatment is fully customizable with regard to depth and speed, so you may have some mild discomfort in areas of more aggressive therapy.

What will I look like after my treatment?

We consider CIT/Microneedling to be a no-downtime treatment.  Immediately post-treatment, your skin will look moderately red, as if you had a sunburn.  Some patients experience mild, short-lived swelling at areas of aggressive treatment, such as under the eyes.  Swelling and redness begin to resolve within hours of treatment.  Recovery time is  further accelerated by the specially formulated aftercare products included with your treatment.  You may wear mineral makeup to disguise any lingering redness beginning 24 hours after your procedure.

What kind of aftercare will I require?

Your treatment will include post procedure products to be used for the first five days along with instructions on how and when to use them.  If you have a chemical peel along with your CIT treatment, you may require additional aftercare products and/or instructions dependent upon the strength of the peel.  You will want to be gentle with your freshly treated skin– avoid aggressive scrubbing/washing; picking at healing skin; intentional, prolonged sun exposure (activities of daily life are harmless, provided you apply a mineral sunscreen); harsh or active products (Retin-A/Tretinoin, retinol, AHAs/BHAs, etc).  It is also advised to avoid heavy/sweaty exercise for the first 72 hours post-treatment as this may increase swelling and redness or cause itching / burning as sweat is absorbed into the healing skin.

During  your microneedling procedure you will relax with topical numbing for 30-45 mins. After the microneedling treatment we apply a soothing and calming mask while going over your complimentary aftercare kit. The treatment is finished with a soothing oil and cream.
